Farewell Services in Hospitals
- In recent years, many members of the public have wished to conduct a simple funeral and chosen to use the farewell services in hospitals.
- The bereaved engage an undertaker to collect the body from the hospital or a public mortuary, and then proceed with the funeral procession directly without holding a ceremony at a funeral parlour.
- The bereaved hold simple memorial rites in a farewell room of the relevant venue. Afterwards, the body will be transported to a crematorium or a cemetery for cremation or burial.
- Farewell services are available in most hospitals but generally only provided to the bereaved of their deceased in-patients.
Points to note when using the dedicated rooms or farewell rooms in hospitals:
- Generally, simple arrangements can be made, such as placing flowers, photos and elegiac couplets.
- A simple farewell rite of about 30 minutes can be conducted (please confirm the time with the relevant hospital first).
- Burning of joss sticks or joss papers are usually restricted. Only outdoor joss paper burners can be used for burning a small amount of joss papers.
- A few hospitals do not have joss paper burners.
